MHC began in 1987, when Dr. Semyon Friedman—a researcher and chemical engineering professor at Johns Hopkins University—opened the first clinic in the Baltimore area. His goal was simple but powerful: to care for newly arrived refugees in his community who needed physical therapy after injury.
What started as a mission to serve an underserved group quickly grew into something bigger. Dr. Friedman recognized that access to high-quality rehabilitation care was essential for everyone, not just new immigrants. With that vision, he expanded MHC into a network of clinics designed to meet the needs of diverse communities.
Today, MHC operates more than 90 clinics across Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Delaware, New Jersey, and Florida. Each location is led by experienced medical doctors, physical therapists, and a dedicated healthcare management team—all working together to deliver cutting-edge, compassionate care supported by the latest healthcare technology.
We believe everyone deserves access to a stable, rewarding healthcare career. Our mission is to train and empover the next generation of Chiropractic Assistant — no experience required.
The MHC Chiropractic Assistant Certification course provides the 103 hours of classroom training that is required by the Maryland State Board of Chiropractic Examiners. It includes 79 hours of online training and 24 hours of hands-on training.
At MHC, we understand the importance of community and philanthropy and value giving back to the communities we serve. Learn more about our charitable efforts below.
MHC founder Dr. Semyon Friedman and his wife Janna, as Holocaust survivors, are committed to creating awareness and honoring the memories of those who perished. After learning about the low public knowledge of the Holocaust, Dr. Friedman and his daughter Julia Peremel launched a partnership with the USHMM to offer free, private guided tours to employees, their families, and law firms. As part of this program, MHC provides transportation to and from the museum and lunch for participants.
Protecting the environment is a core value of MHC, which operates as a Green company. We understand the importance of maintaining and supporting the surrounding environment, with a focus on restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay. MHC has partnered with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to make a $100 donation in a law firm's name when they pledge to "Go Green" by receiving all patient documents via MHC's HIPAA compliant portal.
